Tonea Marshall Breaks 60mH National High School Record In Semi-final Shocker

Tonea Marshall of Arlington Seguin, Texas clocked 8.08 in the semi-finals of the 60-meter hurdles to break the National High School Record at New Balance Nationals Indoor on Sunday morning.

"I'm very excited," she said afterward. "I wasn't going out there to run the national record, I was just going out there to run my race."

The senior entered the New York championship with losses in the finals of her two previous hurdles races: she took third at the UK High School Invitational and second at the David Oliver Classic in February. But since entering the Armory, the LSU commit has raced better than ever. She dropped 8.16 in the prelims, which tied for No. 2 on the all-time list.

The finals are scheduled for 1:41 p.m. and feature an all-star cast, including fellow all-time greats Anna Cockrell of N.C. and Chanel Brissett of Pa.
