Foot Locker South (NC)

Virginian Stars Drew Hunter, Weini Kelati Dominate The Field

Drew Hunter Right On The Record

Drew Hunter torched the field at Foot Locker South, going through the mile in an outrageous 4:26, which is 13:46 5K pace. He slowed slightly to roughly 9:10 for two miles--14:15 5K pace--before finishing in 14:26 to break fellow Virginian Sean McGorty's 2012 McAlpine course record. McGorty, currently of Stanford, went on to place runner-up at Foot Locker that year to Edward Cheserek.

Weini Kelati Runs Like The Nation's Best

In the first major championship of the day, Weini Kelati put together a dominant last mile to win Foot Locker South over Nevada Mareno. The two were side by side through two miles in 10:40 before Kelati pulled away to win in an unofficial time of 16:43.

Behind Kelati and Mareno, eight more girls qualified for the December 12 national finals in San Diego. Virginia's Libby Davidson, Georgia's Lindsay Billings, Texas's Julia Heymach and Abby Gray, Georgia's Emma Grace Hurley and Savannah Carnahan, South Carolina's Logan Morris, and North Carolina's Anna Vess filled out the top ten in that order.
