Madeleine Davison finishes 2nd in Notre Dame Invite Open 5K in 17:25!

Madeleine Davison turned in another strong performance Friday in her second race of an unattached senior year.

Running in the open race at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Davison started cautiously in her first 5K of the 2015 XC season and steadily moved toward the front of the women's field, finishing a close second in a lifetime best of 17:25.7. The senior could not reel in Notre Dame graduate Rebecca Tracy, who won in 17:24.2.

Third went to North Carolina State's Alyssa Rudawsky in 17:29.8 as the top trio separated itself from the rest of the women. A standout at Garnet Valley and redshirt sophomore with the Wolfpack, Rudawsky led through the opening mile in 5:26.35, while Davison hit the first checkpoint in 5:38.53 and was 21st.

By the 4K mark, Davison had moved up to third in 14:06.54 as Rudawsky still led in 13:58.96.

Following her effort at the Notre Dame Golf Course in South Bend, Davison took her third official recruiting visit. She also has visited Penn State and Syracuse, with a fourth recruiting stop expected this fall.
