Prefontaine Classic (OR)

Georgia state champions Ryan Clark and Candace Hill each won the inaugural Elite High School 200m at the Prefontaine Classic on Friday, May 30, 2015.

Boys Highlights:

  • Ryan Clark proves why he is the best sprinter in the nation as he runs nearly uncontested to a 20.77 victory, the third-fastest time in the nation this year behind his own 20.71. Texas sprinters Corey Dauphine and Obi Igbokwe close hard for second and third
  • Arizona state 1600m record holder Carlos Villarreal had Marcus Wheeler on his mind, the Arizona state cross country champion who committed suicide in school this month. Villarreal summoned a harrowing last surge to win in US #2 4:05.25 over early leader Mikey Brannigan, who also runs 4:05.78

Girls Highlights:

  • US #1 Candace Hill and Diamond Spaulding had some deja vu from last year's national meet, as the duo finished 1-2 in 23.64 to 23.72
  • Ryen Frazier battles Dani Jones to the bitter end, as the senior cross the finish in a photo finish. Frazier nabs the win, US #1 4:39.84 to US #2 4:39.88 as all nine girls run 4:44 or faster

Illinois Boys State Championships (IL)

Ja'mari Ward set a new Illinois 2A state record in the prelims of the boys long jump with a leap of 25'0.25" from the current national leader in the long jump and triple jump. Speaking of the triple jump, the Cahokia junior added another big mark with a leap of 50'6".

  • Kahmari Montgomery of Plainfield Central broke a 30 year old state meet record for 3A in Illinois clocking a personal best US #7 time of 46.26. Montgomery was also a state champion in the 100 meter dash with a swift wind legal 10.50 clocking that puts him US #16. He made it three state titles on the day in the 200 with a 20.96 clocking.
  • Arcadia Invite 3200 meter champ Jesse Reiser was able to repeat as the 3A boys 3200 time finishing just under 9 minutes in 8:59.58. It was Reiser's fourth time under 9 minutes.
  • Reiser was denied a second state title on the day later in the 1600 meter run by Lane senior Pavlo Hutsalyuk who might have pulled off the shocker of the day dropping 6 seconds from his 4:14 season best to win the 3A title in 4:08.19 over the runner-up Reiser (4:09.78).
  • The Sandburg boys were one of 6 squads under 7:50 in the Illinois 3A boys 4x800 finals as Sean Torpy anchored them a 1:53 split to US #6 victory of 7:42.03. One of the tightest packed squads in the country season to advance to Nike Cross Nationals, their depth has carried over to the track this spring.
  • The Evanston Township boys ruled the sprint relays taking the 3A titles in both the 4x100 (41.68) and 4x200 (1:26.81).
  • Ty Moss of Neuqua Valley, probably upset from his team failing to win the 4x800 earlier in the day, took his frustration out in the open 800 field to beat out Edwardville's Wes Schoenthal (1:51.91) with a winning time of 1:51.80.
  • Sam Sikon had one of the best field event performances in Saturday's finals with his winning throw in the 2A boys shot put of 61'0.25" from the sophomore at Carbondale High School.
  • Ricky Nelson, a senior at Belleville West, won the 3A boys discus throw with a US #13 mark of 192'3". A big PR progression for Nelson over the weekend as he went from 169'9" season best to 176'3" in the prelims on Friday to 192'3" in the finals on Saturday.
  • Burlington Central senior Lucas Ege had the fastest winning times of the day in the hurdles sweeping Class 2A with clockings of 14.15 in the 110 hurdles and 37.10 in the 300 hurdles.
  • Josh Eiker, a junior from Galesburg, was also another fast 2A champion posting finals times of 10.57 in the 100 and 21.20 in the 200.
  • The Cahokia boys ran away with the 2A boys team title, much in part due to their dominance in the relays grabbing first place in the 4x800 (7:53), 4x100 (41.12), 4x200 (1:25.83), and 4x400 (3:17.57).

  • The 4x800 meter relays saw many teams well under 8 minutes as well as several under 7:50 led by Neuqua Valley at 7:45.38, while Lyons won another qualifying heat in 3A with a time of 7:46.22.
  • Neuqua Valley also did not play around in their 4x400 meter relay heat clocking a very quick time of 3:17.19 to lead all finals qualifiers.
  • Indoor national champion long and triple jumper Ja'mari Ward wasted no time popping big marks in both the long jump (25'0.25") and triple jump (50'6") in his 2A preliminary flights of both events.
  • Kahmari Montgomery was moving in his 400 prelims heat for 3A clocking a time of 47.19. Montgomery is currently ranked US #14 from 46.87 performance at his sectional meet. Montgomery was also fastest qualifier in the 100 at 10.52 and 200 at 21.26.
  • 4:17 was the cutoff time for the 3A boys 1600 finals which will include the likes of Foot Locker finalist Jesse Reiser (4:16.40) and NXN qualifier Ryan Clevenger (4:16.62), current state leader Zach Dale (4:16.62), Dream Mile qualifier Matt Plowman (4:13.90), and 4:10 season best performer Keagan Smith. Smith was the fastest qualifier at 4:12.70.
  • William Session, a junior at Belleville East, was knocking on the door of sub 14 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles in only the prelims with a 14.01 performance. Session has a PR of 13.91


Washington State Championship (WA)

Boys Highlights:

  • 3-time Foot Locker All-American John Dressel won the 3A boys 1600 state title in 4:15, while Jack Yearian in 4A and Scott Kopcyznski in 2A won with times of 4:12.
  • In their final state meet battle, John Dressel got the win over his long-time rival Tanner Anderson for the 3A boys 3200 title in a time of 9 minutes flat with the NXN champ Anderson trailing in second place at 9:09.
  • Isaac Westlund of Archbishop Murphy won the 2A boys titles with the best time of the meet in a 47.84. Nice improvement from last spring when he had a season best of 48.38, but a return to his form from two years ago when he ran 47.75 as a sophomore.
  • Oak Harbor's Dejon Devroe won the 3A boys 800 title with a two second PR at 1:52.61.
  • Only a sophomore, Aiden Basco of Mt. Rainer dipped under 38 seconds in the 4A boys 300 meter hurdles prelims with a 37.76 effort.
  • Cole Christman, a 4:13 runner-up to Yearian in the 4A boys 1600, was the fastest qualifier among all the 800 heats in all classes at 1:53.30 from Wenatchee senior.
  • Olympic senior Keshun McGee was a double state champion in 2A in both the long jump with a meet record mark of 23'4.50" as well as the triple jump at 47'5.75".

Girls Highlights:

  • Jordan Oakes continues her scorching spring of fast times as she won the Washington 3A state title in a time of 4:47.11. Holy Names Academy went 1-2 with their sophomore duo of Oakes and Erin Ripple (4:54.45). Oakes doubled back to win the 3200 in a 10:34 PR, while teammate Ripple repeated as the 800 champion in 2:10.45.
  • Curtis has a pair of underclassmen stars as well in the form of freshmen triple jumpers Saudia James-Heard and Alexis Ellis. Ellis had jumped the nation's best all-conditions mark earlier in the season (no wind reading) at 42'4.50". She finished second (39'7.25") to her teammate James-Heard in the 4A state competition with James-Heard almost reach 40 feet at 39'11.25".
  • Darhian Mills of Inglemoor has already broken the 4A state meet record in the 300 meter hurdles and its only the prelims! Mills ran a swift US #15 time of 42.06 in the prelims on Thursday. She ended up running 42.13 in the finals for the state title.
  • Union sophomore Jai'lyn Merriweather became the first under 55 seconds in the state of Washington in the 400 meter dash winning the 4A state title in 54.73.
  • Chinne Okoronkwo of Mountainlake Terrace is one of the nation's best triple jumpers, but surprising is to find her in the results as the 3A state champion in the girls pole vault! She cleared a new personal best height of 13'3". Kirsten Webber also cleared 13'3" for the 2A state title to break her own state meet record.


Michigan State Championship (MI)

Boys Highlights:

  • In his final state meet, Grant Fisher put on quite a show. He nearly broke 4 minutes in the 1600 with personal best and state record time of 4:00.28. Meet management had a 2nd finish line set up as well for a full mile, which Fisher ran through in a time of 4:01.66. The recently graduated Grand Blanc senior then doubled back in the 3200 meter run to run a season best time of 8:53, which ranks behind only Dathan Ritzenhein in state meet history.
  • Another state record also went down in the boys 800 by the reigning New Balance Nationals outdoor 800 meter champ Donavan Brazier as he recorded his third 1:48 performance in the last two weeks with 1:48.78 performance from the national leader.
  • The Saline boys 4x800 featuring Logan Wetzel, Josiah Humphrey, Austin Welch, and Kevin Hall broke the Michigan state record in the 4x800 meter relay clocking a scorching US #3 7:38.97. Three of the four legs ran personal best splits to make the record setting performance happen.
  • Jaron Flournoy was a double champ in the sprints as the Westland John Glenn senior rolled to a 10.56 PR in the 100 for Division 1 title along with a 200 win as well in a season best performance of 21.25.
  • Flournoy's club teammate Skylar Bowden, who runs for Saline, was a close runner-up in the 200 to Flournoy at 21.29 and previously won the 400 earlier in the day in 47.87.

Girls Highlights:

  • Oak Park girls 4x800 meter relay team of Jayla Fleming, Lashae Bowens, Ersula Farrow, and Dorrian Coleman won the D1 girls race in a NEW US #1 8:54.29. Farrow was actually on the state record 4x800 at Grosse Pointe South two years ago when they ran 8:48.29. Audrey Belf and the Birmingham Seaholm girls finished second to Oak Park with a US #5 time of 9:01.33.
  • The Oak Park girls would go onto sweep the relays in Division 1 with winning times of 1:39.55 in the 4x200, 48.17 in the 4x100, and 3:51.50 in the 4x400.
  • Ersula Farrow was the Oak Park girls lone individual champion on the track as she claimed victory in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:08.43 as she went 1-2 with freshmen teammate Dorrian Coleman (2:11.44).
  • Oak Park's Anna Jefferson was denied a title in the 400 at the hands of Rockford's Sammy Cuneo, who won on her home track in a time of 55.32.
  • After taking runner-up in the 4x800 meter relay, Birmingham Seaholm's Audrey Belf and Rachel Dadamio came back in the meet to win an individual title each with Dadamio posting a personal best time of 4:46.05 in the 1600, while Belf won the 3200 in a controlled 10:26 race for her.
  • East Kentwood junior Sekayi Bracey proved herself as the state's most dominant sprinting running away with Division 1 titles for both the 100 (11.83) and 200 (24.62)


Missouri 3A/4A/5A State Championships (MO)

Hannah Long cemented herself as arguably the best distance runner ever from the state of Missouri winning the 1600 meter on Saturday at her state meet in a new US #1 4:40.15 running solo up front the way whole way. Boys Highlights:

  • Park Hill's Chris Nilsen cleared a NEW Missouri state record height of 17'0" in the boys pole vault! Only a junior, so Nilsen has another year to improve upon his all-time best height today and moves up to a US #7 ranking in the pole vault nationally. Nilsen had only cleared 16 prior to the state meet!
  • The Davis Twins (Carlos and Khalil) went 1-2 in the Discus for the second straight year. Carlos took the top spot throwing 201-9, 11 feet shy of his state record he set a year ago. The Davis twins would go 1-2 in the shot put on Saturday as well keeping the same order with Carlos as the champ at 60'5.75" and Khalil as the runner-up at 58'8.25".
  • Ft. Zumwalt East senior Sean Conlin was a 14th place 4:34 finisher in his sectional meet last spring and not advancing to the state meet in the 1600. One year, Conlin is a Missouri state champion and the fastest of all the champions with his 4:11.35 Class 4 victory.
  • Jacob Peister of Blue Springs leaped one of the farthest triple jumps in Missouri state history recording a mark of 50'2" to win the Class 5 title.
  • Kiante Hardin of Webb City was the fastest man of the day for Saturday's finals as senior won the Class 4 title in both the 100 (10.71) and 200 (21.50)
  • Dream 100 qualifier (from Kansas Relays) Micah Beaver of Raymore-Peculiar clocked a 100 meter personal best of 10.74 in Friday's prelims.
  • Over a dozen boys ran 49.33 or faster in the 400 prelims led by last summer's AAU champion Quincy Hall of Raytown South at 48.14 as the top qualifier. In the finals, he took it up a notch to drop a US top 20 performance of 46.98.

Girls Highlights:

  • Hannah Long opened up a busy weekend with a 2:06.24 split in the 4x800m to bring her Eureka squad back four second deficit. Eureka clocked in at 9:15.22 with Lafayette a tick back at 9:16.79. She came back on Saturday to break her own Missouri state record in the 1600 with a US #1 4:40.15 performance to certainly solidify her case for an adidas Dream Mile spot. She finished off the meet winning her 12th career individual title with a 2:08.87 open 800 PR.
  • Taylor Werner looks to be back to her national class fitness level from a year ago when she ran 4:44/10:19 as shown in winning the Class 4 3200 title on Friday evening in a 10:34 performance by the St. Genevieve junior.
  • Jasmine Barge ran some very quick times for the prelims only of the hurdles as she led all qualifiers from day one with a 14.08 clocking in the 100 meter hurdles and 42.34 performance in the 300 meter hurdles by the McCluer North senior. She came back in the finals to win both events as well in times of 14.38 in the 100 hurdles and 42.86 in the 300 meter hurdles as rainy weather made conditions less ideal to run fast.
  • Like Barge, Grandview's Anglerne Annelus posted some equally jaw dropping trials times but in the sprints as the top qualifier in the 100 at 11.64 and 200 at 23.47. In the finals, Annelus was the spring queen in both for the state of Missouri with times of 11.75 in the 100 and 23.85 in the 200.
  • Last year's Class 3 state shot put runner-up Allison Hinson of St. Clair, had a remarkable four foot improvement on Friday to win the Class 4 title with a US top 20 mark of 47'3.75".


Alaska State Championships (AK)

  • Rocking the blue hair for his final state meet, Levi Thomet of Kodiak broke the Alaska State Meet 3200 meter record in 9:09. Thomet came back on Saturday to break a 30 year old state meet record in the boys 1600 in a time of 4:12.07. Thomet completed the distance in breaking the line first in the 800 in a time of 1:57 to wrap up his final state meet with a total of 9th career state title between outdoor track and cross country.
  • Thomet's 1600 race was only a record breaking race, but historically deep with 3 others under 4:20 with Ty Jordan (4:15), Jordan Theisen, and Jonah Theisen.

  • 3200 meter national leader Allie Ostrander broke her own state meet record in the 3200 meter run in a warm 67 degree day for Anchorage, Alaska with a time of 10:09.72. Ostrander's previous state meet record was set last year in a time of 10:13.87. She still has an opportunity to improve upon her 1600 meter state meet record of 4:49.47. Ostrander came back on Saturday to break her own state meet record in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:48 after going through 2:21 in the first 800 meters. Ostrander capped off her final state meet winning the 800 meter title in a new personal best time of 2:11.00.
  • Tanner Ealum is arguably the best track & field athlete from the state of Alaska not named Allie Ostrander. While Ostrander dominated the distance races over the weekend in Anchorage, the Anchorage Christian senior Ealum ruled the sprints crushing the fields in all 3 of her finals with winning times of 12.12 in the 100, 24.74 in the 200, and 54.87 in the 400.
  • Great time for the state of the Alaska produced by the Soldotna girls with their time of 9:27.39 having to rank among the fastest ever in state history.
  • The next distance star from Alaska with Ostrander graduating will be Glenallen's Briahna Gerlach as the sophomore added to her collection of 1A/2A/3A state titles posting a near sub 5 minute time in the 1600 at 5:00.75 and taking the 3200 title in a time of 11:10.


Kansas State Championships (KS)

Kaylee Bogina, a runner who battles Chron's disease (MileSplit featured earlier in the year as part of the Saucony: Finding Strong series, won her third straight Kansas state 3200 title in a new personal best time and first sub 11 minute performance at 10:58.

Boys Highlights:

  • Indoor national shot put champion Willie Morrison threw for a new PR and US #2 mark of 69'4.50" at the Kansas State Meet. More importantly, Morrison broke a 35 year old Kansas state record with the throw!
  • Andale's Jeff Ast, US leader in the boys javelin, wins his first Kansas state title with a throw of 193'3". Not his best throw of the season (226'2") as Erie's Brett Thompson actually had the best throw of the state meet in the 3A division at 201'7".

Girls Highlights:

  • 8 girls over 40 feet in the shot put at the Kansas State Meet led by Baldwin's Alexa Stein with a mark of 47'1.50", which ranks just off US top 20.
  • Blue Valley West's Christi Lemunyon has to rank as one of the best vaulters all-time in Kansas state history after clearing 12'9" this weekend in Wichita.
  • Kaylee Bogina, a runner who battles Chron's disease (MileSplit featured earlier in the year as part of the Saucony: Finding Strong series, won her third straight Kansas state 3200 title in a new personal best time and first sub 11 minute performance at 10:58.


California Section Finals (CA)

On her final attempt in the shot put competition at the Central Coast Section Finals, Elena Bruckner of Valley Christian threw for a US #10 all-time mark of 53'5.50"!

Boys Highlights:

  • Two of the state's best sprinters faced off at 200 meters in Southern Section Masters between Vista Murietta's Michael Norman and Chaminade College Prep's TJ Brock. Both won races earlier with Brock taking the 100 in 10.50, while Norman cruised to the victory in the 400 in 46.70 to setup the battleground matchup. Norman would be the victor with a NEW US #1 20.46 into HEADWIND! Brock took second with a time of 21.26.
  • National shot put leader Matthew Katnik of St. John Bosco kept up his consistency of monster marks over 70 feet with another at 70'11.50" at Southern Section Masters.
  • Stellar boys 3200 at Southern Section Masters with Brian Zabiliski of Saugus running a new PR by 10 seconds at US #5 8:49.38 to outduel Robert Brandt of Loyola (2nd, 8:49.38). Even more remarkable finish was Cole Spencer of Great Oak breaking 9 minutes for first time for third in 8:59.45. Last year, Spencer had a 3200 PR of 9:47!
  • The Long Beach Wilson boys won Southern Section Masters 4x400 in a US #9 time of 3:13.61, which is second fastest in the state of California to only Michael Norman's Vista Murietta squad (3:13.09).
  • Brea Olinda junior Austin Tamango took care of business in the 1600 at the Southern Section Masters Meet posting a winning time of 4:08.72
  • Justin Collins of Carson cruised through the hurdles at LA City Section Finals in 14.38 for the 110 and 37.13 for the 300 hurdles.

Girls Highlights:

  • Destiny Collins is making a strong case for her insertion in the adidas Dream mile after she ran a personal best 1600 meter time of 4:40.34 at the Southern Section Masters Meet, which ranks her US #1! Collins wasn't done there as she came back to win the 3200 as well in a new personal best US #6 time of 10:11.64.
  • Elena Bruckner has now moved herself onto the US top 10 all-time list in the shot put! The current national leader threw for a US #10 all-time mark of 53'5.50" at the Central Coast Section Finals!
  • The latest chapter of the Lauren Rain Williams and Zaria Francis rivalry was all Lauren Rain this week as she was a double winner over Francis in both the 100 and 200 at Southern Section Masters with swift clockings of 11.51 and 23.29, which both times are just off her wind legal season bests. Francis was runner-up with times of 11.59 and 23.65.
  • The Oaks Christian 4x100 and 4x400 relays featuring Lauren Rain Williams grabbed first place finishes and fast times as well turning in winning performances of 45.47 in the 4x100 and 3:45.62 in the 4x400.
  • An incredible long jump competition at Southern Section Masters between two of the nation's best both going over 20 feet in champion with only a quarter inch separating Courtney Corrin at 20'2.75" and Tara Davis at 20'2.50"! Davis was the triple jump champ with a leap of 40'8.75".
  • At the Sac Joaquin Masters, Fiona O'Keeffe almost broke 10 minutes in the 3200 with a US #2 PR performance of 10:00.85. A 14 second PR for the junior from Davis High School.
  • Kaitlyn Merritt matched her US #4 season best clearance in the girls pole vault as she went over cleanly at 13'7" in the Southern Section Masters.
  • While Elena Bruckner had the biggest throw of the weekend at Central Coast Sections, Nia Britt and Kendall Mader also went big at Southern Section Masters with Britt's mark of 47'9.75" in the shot put, while Mader threw 155'3" in the discus.
  • Nice distance double from Marissa Williams at the LA City Section Finals with winning times of 4:47.88 and 10:28.30, but more impressive were her margins of victory at 24 seconds and 53 seconds.
  • Jurnee Woodward won the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Finals in a new meet record and US #2 time of 41.10 from the sophomore at Vacaville High School. Bright future for Woodward to go well into 40 seconds soon.
  • US 100m hurdles leader Jasmyne Graham of Eleanor Roosevelt swept the hurdles at the Southern Section Masters with times of 13.52 in the 100 meter hurdles and 41.94 in the 300 meter hurdles.


Virginia Regionals (VA)

  • Highland Springs boys are known as a sprint powerhouse in Virginia out of the city of Richmond, but now they got a middle distance squad! At the 5A South Regional, the Springers ran the state's fastest time in the 4x800 in a remarkable US #10 time of 7:44.30!
  • Dajuan Seward, an All-American hurdler and jumper from Brunswick High School, had two Virginia state leading performances at the 2A East Regional with a 14.07 clocking in the 110 meter hurdles and leap of 49'9.25" in the triple jump. Seward also won the long jump with a far mark of 23'9.50".
  • Defending New Balance Nationals outdoor 400 meter champ Josephus Lyles of T.C. Williams cruised through the 6A North Regional with times of 47.60 season best in the 400 and 21.12 PR in the 100. Interesting to note that his brother Noah Lyles, the indoor national 200 meter champ, did not compete at the regional meet.
  • Grant Holloway finally got that sub 14 second monkey off his back in the 110 meter hurdles as he dipped under the time barrier at his regional meet with a personal best 13.91 performance from the New Balance Nationals Indoor 60 hurdles champ. Holloway also won 6A South regional titles in the 200 (21.93), 300 meter hurdles (37.99), and high jump (6'10").
  • Lake Braddock boys ran a VA #2 7:46.58 on Thursday night at the 6A North Regional, which ranks them US top 20 in the event, decisively beating a strong field that saw 3 other squads run 7:55 or faster.
  • Alex Corbett, one of the legs on the Lake Braddock 4x800, had a weekend filled with winning as he took individual titles in 6A North for both the 1600 and 3200 with the 1600 being a new PR for him at 4:11.59.

Girls Highlights:

  • Thomas Dale freshmen Titiana Marsh recorded another incredible mark over 40 feet by the ninth grader in winning the 6A South Regional title with a mark of 40'7" into a headwind!
  • The Patriot girls with a 2:10 anchor leg from Rachel McArthur, won the 4x800 meter relay at the 6A North Regional in a US #5 performance of 9:03.04 to take over state leaderboard from Penn Relays runners-up Western Branch.
  • Lauryn Ghee, a sophomore at Grassfield, sprinted to two wins in one of the state's toughest regions at 6A South with times of 54.19 in the 400 and 24.40 in the 400.
  • In a matchup between two of the best sophomores in the country, Lake Braddock's Kate Murphy won the 6A North Region girls 1600 title in 4:50 holding off a fast closing Rachel McArthur in second at 4:51. McArthur came back to win the 3200 in a new PR time of 10:36.
  • The Western Branch girls rolled through their regional meet winning all 3 relay races at 6A South including a swift 46.66 in the 4x100 as well as saw two of their hurdlers in Funlayo Oluwole (13.83) and Faith Ross (13.92) dip under 14 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles.
  • Dominique Johnson of Fauquer threw for a VA #1 mark of 147'11" in the discus throw at the 4A North Regional.
  • In a race between two Foot Locker finalists, Libby Davidson (4:57) defeated Weini Kelati (5:01) for the 4A North Regional title in the 1600 meter run.


New Jersey Group Championships (NJ)

Already the national leader in the 400 meter hurdles, Sydney McLaughlin took over the US #1 spot when they removed the hurdles as well for the 400 meter dash. McLaughlin won 3 events at her New Jersey Group Championships including a US #1 52.49 400.

Boys Highlights:

  • Union Catholic senior Taylor McLaughlin clocked the nation's second fastest time in the 400 meter hurdles behind only Rai Benjamin of New York with his Group championships performance of 51.73. McLaughlin was also a New Jersey Groups champion in the 110 meter hurdles (14.28), 200 meter dash (21.45), and 400 meter dash (47.63) in a busy weekend for him.
  • Piscataway Township's Eric Bethea went over 50 feet in the triple jump for the first time at 50'2.50" and also won a Group title in the long jump with a new PR mark at 23'5".
  • Winslow Township's Edwin Alston just missed dipping under 14 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles clocking a swift time of 14.02, which is the fastest wind legal time of the season in the state of New Jersey.
  • Sterling Pierce of Rancocas Valley got out fast in all of his races winning Group titles in both the 100 (10.76) and 200 (21.77). The state leader in the 100 also ran on the new state leading 4x100 meter relay squad with their 42.20 performance at the Group Championships.
  • The Northern Valley boys took over the state leaderboard in the 4x400 meter relay a time of 3:17.40.

Girls Highlights:

  • Sydney McLaughlin, the sophomore from Union Catholic, won her New Jersey Group state title in the 400 meter dash with a new national leading time of 52.49. McLaughlin ran a second PR for the weekend in the 200 meter dash as well with a 24.09 clocking, while the 400 meter hurdles national champ cruised in her specialty with a time of 58.82. She also anchored the Union Catholic girls to a state leading time of 3:47.63 in the 4x400 meter relay.
  • 12 girls dipped under 5 minutes between all the Group races, but Catherine Pagano was the fastest of them all at 4:52.59. Pagano also was a Group champion in the 800 at 2:12.20.
  • After running a 4:52 in her sectional meet last week, Eve Glasergreen decided to focus on the 3200 this weekend and the decision based off win and new season best time of 10:32.
  • The West Windsor Plainsboro girls ran New Jersey's fastest time of the season in the 4x800 meter relay at 9:07.49, which ranks them US #13 in the event.
  • Penn Relays shot put champ Nickolette Dunbar put up another mark approaching 50 feet at 48'4.50". She has yet to beaten this outdoor season after finish third at New Balance Nationals Indoor.
  • Alyssa Wilson, who was the top American finisher in the discus at the Penn Relays, swept the throws titles in her Group competition with marks of 46'10.75" in the shot and 139'9" in the discus.
  • Winslow Township's Gabrielle Bennett was the state's top performer in the jumps from the Group Championships with a leap of 19'1" in the long jump and clearance of 5'6" in the high jump.


Indiana Regionals (IN)

4-time national champ Anna Rohrer ran a lifetime best of 4:54 in the 1600 at her Indiana regional meet on Tuesday.

Boys Highlights:

  • Indiana University throws commit, David Schall, threw a new state leading mark of 195-0 in the Discus to win the West Lafayette Region.
  • National Champ Deakin Volz won his region with a clearance of 17-0.
  • The Carmel 4x800m Squad is primed for the State Meet, running a US#8 7:44.21. They were closely followed by West Lafayette who ran 7:45.08. Carmel's Ben Veatch came back and ran 9:03, winning by 17 seconds to cement himself as the favorite for the State Meet.
  • Brian Sales of Merrillville dropped a sub 48 second time in the 400 at the Valpariso Regional in a 47.90 PR. Big improvement in year's time when he finished 18th at the Indiana State Meet with a time of 50.41.
  • At the Marion Regional, Brayden Law from Homestead ran the fastest 1600 meter time in the state of Indiana this spring with a 4:12.65 performance.

Girls Highlights:

  • On The Rise Star Anna Rohrer put on a show with an impressive 4:54/10:23 double. Her 1600 meter time is a new personal best and state leading time in Indiana.
  • Jenna Jungels nearly leaped 20 feet in the long jump with a personal best leap of 19'9" from Kenakee Valley junior.
  • Big throw from Victoria Farley in the shot put at 46'1.75" from sophomore at Portage High School. The best mark in the state of Indiana this spring and fifth best among 10th graders nationally.
  • Lynna Irby, who nearly qualified for the adidas Dream 100 last weekend in Florida (11.47 100 PR for 3rd), was back in her homestate to sweep the sprints at her regional meet cruising to times of 12.05 in the 100, 25.14 in the 200, and 54.96 in the 400,


Minnesota Sectionals (MN)

Joe Klecker of Hopkins High School in Minnesota has been on a tear this spring! At his sectional meet this week, Klecker rolled out two fast solo efforts of 8:54 in the 3200 and a 4:09 PR in the 3200!

Boys Highlights:

  • Joe Klecker ran a previous US #1 8:50 earlier in the season at the Dakota Relays, but might have topped that performance with his double at his Minnesota Section meet running an 8:54 3200 on day one and coming back on the second day to run a 4:09 personal best in the 1600. The 3200 race in his section was deep with 4 guys total under 9:10!
  • Evan McClennon of Robbinsdale Armstrong sped through the Section 6AA championships clocking times of 10.59 in the 100 meter dash and 21.25 in the 200 meter dash as the junior is seeking his first state title after being one of the fastest qualifiers in last year's state prelims.

Girls Highlights:

  • Ruby Stauber, a junior at the distance powerhouse program Wayzata, ran a sizzling 800 meter time of 2:08.71 at the Section 6AA Meet. Started out as a sprinter, the move up to focus on the 800 is working out well for Stauber with a US #11 performance.
  • At the Section 3AA finals, Bloomington Kennedy sophomore Honour Finley rolled to wins in the 400 (55.13) and 200 (25.01).
  • Two girls dipped under 5 minutes in the Section 6AA 1600 with Mae Fullerton as the champion in 4:56 followed by Joe Klecker's sophomore sister Elizabeth in second with a time of 4:59.
  • A state champion last year in cross country, Bethany Hasz is seeking her second Minnesota state title this time in the 3200. Hasz won the Section 8AA title in a new season best time of 10:36. Hasz was a top 10 finisher at the Nike Cross Nationals in the fall.
  • The Minnetonka girls have some pretty strong relays as evident with the section meet times of 3:56.75 in the 4x400 and 9:21.44 in the 4x800, which were the fastest statewide among all the section meets.


Ohio Regionals (OH)

Nick Gray of Pickerington North is the Ohio state leader in the 3 events (10.59 100, 21.09 200, & 47.74 400). Does he qualify for state in all 3 or narrow his focus down at his Ohio regional?

New York Section State Qualifiers (NY)

  • Carmel's Benito Muniz, a Foot Locker finalist in the fall, wins the Section 1 boys 1600 meter title in a new personal best performance of 4:09.30 to break the meet record with Luke Gavigan in second at 4:14. WATCH THE RACE
  • National runner-up Eric Favors of North Rockland threw for a solid mark of 64'1.75" to set the meet record in the boys shot put at the Section 1 state qualifier.

Girls Highlights:

  • 400 meter indoor national champ Kamryn McIntosh of Suffern anchored the Suffern girls 4x800 meter relay to a sub 9 minute victory (US #3 8:59.50) at the Section 1 qualifier with a 2:03.8 FAT split! Earlier in the meet, she had won the open 800 cruising to victory in a time of 2:10.82. WATCH THE RACE
  • Anna Flynn (Ursuline) outdueled Bella Burda (Arlington) in the Section 1 girls 3K in a meet record US #6 time of 9:44 with Burda also under the old meet record in second at US #8 9:45. 7th grader Katelyn Tuohy finished 3rd in the race with a time of 10:00.
  • Flynn came back on day two to win the 1500 as well over Burda in a new PR of 4:30.53, which ranks her US #8 in the event.
  • Alex Harris, US leader in the girls 2K steeple at 6:52, finished just a second off her season and national best time at 6:53 in the Section 1 state qualifier.

Oklahoma Meet of Champions (OK)

Highlights:

  • Two-time Foot Locker finalist Ben Barrett of Norman North already owns the Oklahoma state record for 3200m, per his 8:57.97 at the Arcadia Invitational in April. But the senior became the first Oklahoma athlete to break 9 minutes for 3200m in the state of Oklahoma at the Meet of Champions, running 8:59.97 to win by 39 seconds.
  • US #6 ranked pole vaulter Tommy Dial cleared just 16-6 to win the competition one week after setting a personal record of 17-2 to win the state meet.

South Dakota State Championships (SD)

Boys Highlights:

  • South Dakota has a sub 9 minute two miler now in Will Lauer has he set the state meet record in the 3200 with a 8:58.49 victory in the Class AA race.
  • Fast time in the 400 meter prelims from Freeman's Brennan Schmidt at 47.54. He slowed down a bit in the finals at 49.25, but picked up the state title nonetheless.
  • Sturgis Brown's Jacob Simmons had a lethal kick to win state titles in both the 1600 (4:17) and 800 (1:52.38) with his victory in the 800 being a two second PR. He also anchored his SMR to a win and quality time as well at 3:34.90.
  • Damian Hall of Spearfish proved the fastest in all of South Dakota rolling to the best times of the meet in both the 100 at 10.77 and 200 at 21.77.

Girls Highlights:

  • Macy Heinz of Ipswich continues to show why she is the next Laura Roesler out of the Dakotas as she showcased her versatility once again on the state meet stage in winning titles in the 200 (25.10), 400 (57.87), 800 (2:15.17), and 1600 (5:18) in Class B. The sophomore has already won a whopping total of 14 state championships dating back to her 7th grade year!
  • Jasmyne Cooper of Sioux Falls Lincoln was a double winner in the distance races for Class AA as she pulled away from the fields in both the 1600 (5:09.52) and 800 (2:12.72) meter races.


New Hampshire State Championships (NH)

Hannah Parker, last year's Brooks PR 800 meter runner-up, won her fourth straight New Hampshire state title in the 800 with a time of 2:08.

Boys Highlights:

  • Very close finishes in the boys distance races at the Division 1 meet with Timberlane's Liam Kimball (4:19.12) able to just hold off both Brett Hoerner (2nd, 4:19.39) and Justin Carbone (3rd, 4:20.85) for the 1600 meter title. Exeter's Carbone would come back to win the 3200 (9:29.86) though in another tight 3 way with finish between himself, Kendall Westhoff (2nd, 9:30.53), and Nick Sevilla (3rd, 9:30.72).
  • While the last time we saw Eli Moskowitz, he was rolling to a new New Hampshire state 3200 record of 8:44 in a third place finish at the Loucks Games, the Souhegan senior was able to cruise through a much less competitive New Hampshire Division 2 state meet taking wins in the 800 (2:00), 1600 (4:21), and 3200 (10:00).
  • Campbell's Sean Munnelly became the first in the state of New Hampshire to break 50 seconds in the 400 this spring while winning the Division 3 state title in 49.94.

Girls Highlights:

  • Coe-Brown Academy's Hannah Parker, one of the nation's top ranked half milers (finished 2nd last year at Brooks PR), won her fourth consecutive New Hampshire Division 2 state title in the 800 in a time of 2:08.81. Just a second off her 2:07 season best.
  • The Coe Brown Academy girls featuring Parker also won the 4x800 meter relay in a solid time of 9:34.60. Meanwhile, the Bedford girls dipped under 4 minutes in the 4x400 at the Division 1 state meet.
  • Exeter's Shannon Murdock had a great distance double at the Division 1 state meet winning the 1600 meter run with a sub 5 minute performance in 4:54.00 followed by an 800 meter victory in 2:16.74.
  • Ariel Clachar recorded one of the best long jump marks ever in New Hampshire state history with her leap of 19'2.75" for the Division 2 state title by the Coe-Brown Academy senior.
