Nutmeg State well represented at Penn Relays this weekend

Connecticut will be well represented at this weekend's Penn Relay Carnival with 19 schools expected to compete in the three-day meet, held from Thursday to Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania.

in the individual events, the Nutmeg State will have a number of athletes capable of placing high this weekend.

Staples junior Hannah DeBalsi will be attempting to defend her title in the Championship 3,000-meter run (Thursday at 5:55 p.m.) where she'll toe the line with fellow state rival Gabrielle Richichi. The tandem will be joined on the line by nationally-ranked runners Hannah Malloy of Pennsbury (PA), Bella Burda of Arlington (NY), Olivia Young of Unionville (PA) and Libby Davidson of Glass (VA).

The boys' 3K (Friday at 6:10 p.m.) will feature Darien teammates Alex Ostberg and Armstrong Noonan. Ostberg was third in last year's race with a time of 8:20.14. He proved this past indoor season he's capable of running much faster. He was third at the New Balance Nationals where he ran 8:48 for two miles. Noonan has a best of 9:09 for two miles and 8;35 for 3,000m.

Wilton's Spencer Brown is entered in the elite mile (6:05 p.m. on Friday). Brown has a best of 4:12 for the four-lapper. Chris Rough of Westhill, who achieved a best of 15 feet, 10 inches with his sixth-place finish in the pole vault at the New Balance Nationals this past March, is scheduled to compete in his specialty at Penn (Saturday at 10 a.m.).

Also entered individually are Staples' Elizabeth Knoll in the high jump (Thursday at 2:30 p.m.) and Hillhouse's Jaliyah White in the 400m hurdles (Thursday at 10:20 a.m.).
