#TBT: Austin Tamagno ran US #1 3:46.94 1,500m last weekend

With the 2015 New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship ruling track fans' Twitter feeds this past weekend, one superlative non-New York performance may have been overlooked.

Austin Tamagno blasted US #1 3:46.94 for 1,500m to place runner-up at the Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic. The time converts to 4:03.62 for 1,600m and 4:05.03 for the full Mile distance. The meet was an open/collegiate event and Tamagno finished only behind John Gilbertson, who competed unattached and won in 3:45.97. The time is two seconds off the U.S. All-Time Top Ten List. Vince Draddy (Iona Prep, NY) is listed at No. 10 with his 3:44.6 performance in 1979.

The Brea Olinde, CA junior is the nation's third-fastest returning miler behind Grant Fisher (Grand Blanc, MI) and Matthew Maton (Summit, OR). In 2014, he finished runner-up at both the Brooks PR Invitational and the CIF State Finals. He has also raced US #4 1:53.85 800m and US #5 9:09.26 3,200m so far this season.
