Norman Grimes tears up New Mexico with US #1 7.82 60H & 48.5 400m!

After two superlative back-to-back weekends at the Texas A&M High School Indoor Classic and the Arkansas High School Invitational, Norman Grimes finally got his name to the top of the national leaderboard at New Mexico's Duke City All-Comers meet.

The Canyon, Texas junior blazed a sick 7.82 60H as just the third prep to snag a sub-eight second clocking this season. Only Chad Zallow (John F. Kennedy Warren, OH) at 7.83 and Amere Lattin (Fort Bend Marshall, TX) at 7.95 have run under the elusive barrier. Runner-up was a distant 8.49.

But Grimes wasn't done there.

He demonstrated an impressive performance range by coming back to rock the 400m, tying the current US #4 mark in 48.50. He won the two-lap indoor event by nearly three full seconds - a lifetime in a quarter mile race.

Also posting a top national performance was Paulo Benavides (El Paso Franklin), who cleared 5.35m in the Pole Vault to jump to US #1 on the leaderboard. That's 17 feet, 6.5 inches!

Jordan Byrd tied US #20 6.95 60m, while Dartez Hamilton ran US #20 22.11 200m.
