Team USA Selection Process for 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships

2014 IAAF World Junior Championships Selection Procedures

The two highest placing finishers at the 2014 U.S. Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, who elect to join the team, thereby select themselves to represent the USA National Team, provided that they have met the following criteria:

  1. Have met the qualifying standards for the event, as set by the IAAF for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships.  Please note:  Wind-aided marks (those which exceed 2.0 meters per second) in the 100m, 200m, 100m Hurdles, 110m Hurdles, Long Jump, and Triple Jump will not be accepted, and all qualifying standards must have been met during the period October 1, 2013 to the end of the athlete’s individual event at the 2014 Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  There will be no chasing of standards in order to qualify for Team USA for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships.
  2. For the running events of 200m and over, performances achieved on over-sized tracks will not be accepted.
  3. Be eligible to represent the USA in all levels of international competition based on the Competition Rules of USATF and the IAAF.
  4. Be under the age of 20, but at least 16 years of age on December 31, 2014 (only athletes born in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998 can be entered).
  5. All performances must be achieved during an official competition organized in conformity with IAAF or USATF Rules.
  6. All performances must be achieved during competitions organized or sanctioned by the IAAF, its Area Associations or its Member Federations. Thus, results achieved at school competitions must be certified by the Member Federation of the country in which the competition was organized.
  7. Performances achieved in mixed events (between male and female participants), held completely in the stadium may be accepted under specific circumstances and conditions (see USATF and IAAF Rule 147).
  8. Indoor performances will be accepted provided they meet all criteria above.
  9. Athletes must have a valid passport even though the World Juniors Championships is in the USA because passports are used by the IAAF for identification and age verification.
  10. Athletes should bring their passport or a copy of their passports with them when they enter the team sign-up area at the 2014 U.S. Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. (Even though the World Junior Championships are in the USA, a passport will be required for age verification,

USATF will NOT assist the athlete in acquiring a passport by means of: 

  • Paying passport fees
  • Paying passport expedition fees
  • Traveling to a passport office to assist an ahlete with obtaining a passport
  • Paying for passport photographs
  • Paying for an athlete's transportation to a passport office
