Carmel Greyhounds Turn In a Strong Performance at NXN Midwest Regional

The Carmel Greyhounds competed in today's NXN Midwest Regional Meet looking to secure an automatic bid to the NXN Meet in Portland, Oregon with a top two finish.  The Greyhounds ran with a strong pack and returned to the site of their 2013 Indiana State Championship at LaVerne Gibson in Terre Haute and placed first with 103 points to win over a strong team from St. Xavier of Cincinnati (the Ohio State Champions) who finished with 120 points.  These two teams received the automatic bids to the NXN Meet.  Third place went to Hinsdale Central (the Illinois State Champion) with 199 points and Columbus North (the Indiana Runners-up) were fourth with 207 points.  Top teams came from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio to compete in the NXN Midwest Regional Meet.  Strong winds, a very wet and sloppy course, along with threatening storms made for an interesting day.  Running for Carmel were Ben Veatch (9th in 16:28.3), Robert Browning (22nd in 16:42.5), Ben Anderson (23rd in 16:44.4), Michael George (36th in 16:57.4), Thomas Revard (44th in 17:00.1), Daniel Sechuga (59th in 17:08.0) and Josh Horowitz (79th in 17:17.5).  Additionally, Zac Leinheiser ran very well in the Open Race to place 11th in 17:43.2.  Full results may be found on the NXN website.

The team will now prepare for the final three weeks of the 2013 season looking for an outstanding race at the NXN Meet in Portland, Oregon on December 7, 2013.  It will be an honor to represent Carmel High School, the State of Indiana and the Midwest on the National level.  Congratulations also to the Carmel Girl's team who placed first and qualified for NXN.
