The USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa has a Florida flare to it. See how local athletes have done as the competition rolls along.

Bromell's 100m Championship Highlights Day Two At USA Jr./Sr. Championships

Gibbs senior and Baylor bound Trayvon Bromell continued his winning ways taking home the title in the Junior Mens 100m dash.  Bromell ran a 10.56 into a -2.7 mph head wind to advance to the finals seeded fourth. After coming off a win last week at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, he knew the competition would be even stiffer in the finals and the star would have to bring his "A" game and he did. Less than two hours and facing a -4.7 mph head wind Bromell ran an impressive time of 10.47 considering the conditions to beat out Tevin Hester of North Carolina and Cameron Burrell who finished runner-up to Bromell last week, but got the best of him last month at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York CIty. Stanton Prep's Kendal Williams finished sixth in a time of 10.88. He is qualified for the relay team pool for Columbia. When asked if Bromell would attend Pan-Am Juniors he was uncertain. If this was his last race of his high school career, it certainly has been a great couple of weeks.

College Sprinters ShIne On Grand Stage

The high school athletes might have gone first, but the senior mens and womens 100m dash prelims set the tone of what is to be a blazing fast final. Former Oak Ridge standout Barbara Pierre now running for Nike won in a time of 11.18 while UCF's Octavious Freeman finished second in 11.25. It will be interesting to see how these two in the final and also the impact success will have on Freeman's pro prospects. She has a great showing at NCAA's and by making the world team one has to believe the chances of returning to UCF, combined with the departure of head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert, unlikely.

Much like the women, Florida had two athletes go 1-2 in the mens 100m dash prelims. Chamberlain alum and FSU sprinter Dentarius Locke, after coming off a 9.97 performance at nationals, edged out former South Lake and Florida Gator Jeff Demps who is now running for Adidas. Their times of 10.183 and 10.188 were the fastest going into the finals, which could see a totally different outcome. Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin, Walter Dix, and Michael Rodgers all qualified as well and will be the ones to beat later tonight.
