On balance, it was a mixed bag kind of day for the Colorado-connected contingent at the USA Outdoor and USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships today in Des Moines.
USA Junior Outdoors
- Tony Carodine finished third in the triple jump with a best mark of 51-2.75 (+2.9)
- Tyler Schultz of CSU went 63-7.75 for third in the shot put
- Megan Patterson went 10th in the shot put with a toss of 45-1.75
- Ana Holland and Marybeth Sant made finals in the 100 and met up with a -4.4 wind there, taking their times to 11.78 and 11.95, respectiviely. That was good enough for third and sixth in the standings.
- Raymond Bozmans met up with a -4.8 wind in finals, but still managed a fourth at 10.75. Alex Mead didn't get out of prelims with an 11.34 (-5.6) in his heat.
- Josh Cogdill ended up ninth in the decathlon with 6627 points.
USA Outdoors
- Toni Smith placed second in the triple jump with a bound of 45-8.5
- Paige Blackburn got 173-9 on her first toss of the javelin, and that throw stood for seventh
- Alicia Nelson and Shalaya Kipp both advanced to the steeple finals with times of 10:03.20 and 10:07.75, respectively
- Bethany Praska ran 2:03.78, but that was good enough only for 19th in the 800 prelims
- Dey Dey (formerly Dey Tuach) advanced to the 800 semifinals with a time of 1:47.01, Mark Husted missed the cut at 1:47.87
- Lopez Lomong advanced to 1500 finals by running 3:41.52, but both Mack McLain and Stephen Pifer missed the cut
- Markesh Woodson ran 10.52 (-1.9) in the 100 prelims but failed to make the cut for semis
- Kara Goucher scored a fifth in the 10,000 with a time of 32:59.23
- Dathan Ritzenhein got second in the 10,000 at 28:49.66, also showing up in the scoring were Aaron Braun at fifth in 29:09.48 and Gabe Proctor in 11th at 29:38.62
